FREE TRIAL SPEECH & DRAMA CLASSES
AT
THE MAYBURY CENTRE, WOKING
9 - 14th SEPTEMBER
To celebrate the start of our new term, we are offering a free trial week of classes at The Maybury Centre.
Newson Academy runs a variety of speech and drama classes at The Arbor Centre in Pyrford and The Maybury Centre in Woking for children and young people aged 4+.
Training in the performing arts helps to develop “the whole child”. It helps them to build relationships with others, it teaches them to listen, improves literacy, allows them to express themselves clearly and concisely and helps them to develop empathy.
Feel free to sign up to as many classes as you wish. The free trial week is a great opportunity for your child to try something new but without committing to a full term upfront.
About our classes
Drama
Our flagship class helps children develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills. Children will explore a wide range of dramatic skills through poetry, stories, plays and role-play. Each term is centred on a particular theme and we use a combination of materials to explore characters and gain new dramatic skills. In our higher level we can help with GCSE, AS and A-Level work.
LAMDA Communication
LAMDA’s communication classes provide the opportunity to develop a clear speaking voice, positive body language and self-confidence by exploring different uses of spoken English.
LAMDA Poetry
LAMDA Poetry classes will help children develop a strong speaking voice and improve their memory skills. The classes are designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication of the written word.
Performance Group
If your child loves to perform then this is their time to shine on stage! Develop self-confidence and team-working skills whilst having fun.

My 9-year-old daughter has been attending speech and drama classes at Newson Academy for the past three years. She loves coming to the classes. I've seen her confidence and self-esteem really grow. She's naturally a quiet child but she now speaks up in class and people constantly remark on how well spoken she is. I'm sure this is a direct result of her attending classes at Newson Academy.

My son really enjoyed his LAMDA and drama lessons with Miss Jo.
His speech, confidence and projection skills have improved so much since attending the classes.
You can always hear him when he is chosen for parts in his school productions, whereas a lot of his classmates cannot be heard which I feel is all due to the skills learned from Miss Jo.

When I first started with Joanne, I had little knowledge of Drama. She gave me direction, and understanding. Joanne makes learning enjoyable and easy, her teaching methods are creative and practical.

Joanne came into our school to give an afternoon workshop. This was a huge success, with Joanne encouraging full participation from all our students. Indeed, so successful and productive was the drama input, we have decided to expand our courses, and working in collaboration with Joanne, will run several more drama programmes. We feel the benefits in confidence; self belief and fluency are immense.

JoAnne has been a great encouragement and support to me. Since she has been my Public Speaking coach, I have experienced the benefits of her excellent guidance and training. I am a regular contributor on the radio and have recently been elected as a Councillor. I found her particularly helpful in developing techniques to use the voice with greater impact. For example, I was recently asked to speak at a church which streams its services. After the service I was told the audience had quadrupled as I was speaking!
